The second of our culinary excursions saw a visit to Bull Rodizio, a Brazilian steakhouse in Hemel Hempstead. Situated on the corner of London Road and Durrants Hill Road, Bull Rodizio combines a bar to the left of the entrance and the steakhouse to the right, with convenient parking next door. We visited on a Monday evening, which unfortunately, was very quiet, as this feels like a restaurant that needs to be busy to generate a good atmosphere. On the plus side, it did mean that service was very quick and the side bar, with both cold and hot offerings, was well stocked and easily accessible.
Bull Rodizio operate a system whereby you collect your sides from a hot and cold side bar, and the meats, including steaks, lamb, chicken and beef, are brought to and carved at your table. You are provided with a coaster with the Bull Rodizio logo in green on one side, and red on the other. Your coaster sits on your table and the servers use it to know if you would like more meat brought to your table; green indicating “yes please” and red indicating “no thank you”. We were advised that there were 13 different meats to try, but unfortunately, by the time the 9th selection had been brought to our table, we had to flip the coaster to red, as we only had space left for dessert.
The food itself was well cooked, and the selection of meats and sides was impressively vast. The service was quick, the server attentive, helpful and friendly, and for value for money, Bull Rodizio is hard to beat. However, on the way home, we couldn’t help but feel that it hadn’t quite lived up to our expectations. Perhaps our expectations were raised unrealistically due to our previous visit to Lomito, which would be unfair as they are two very different dining experiences. If you were looking for a restaurant for a family gathering or party, then Bull Rodizio would definitely be a very solid choice, but for a trio of adults, it doesn’t quite compare to the Lomito and Prime steakhouses of this world.
